Note that 263 Field Company landed at Sword beach on D-Day, with the task of clearing mines and other obstructions off the beach. That was on 06-06-1944. It is therefore possible that William was injured during the D-Day landing, as he was admitted to hospital back in Essex 2 days later.
During early 1945 his company was employed building bridges. No further details yet available.
He died in 1945 leaving behind his wife of 3 years, and a son of 5 months (Geoff).
He has a memorial in the Commonwealth War Graves cemetery in Hasselt.
