Maps and Migrations

Both the tops of the Warkup and Calvert trees originate in small towns in Yorkshire. This page focuses on how these two familes spread, and moved round the county. The familes also both ventured further afield, heading to Canada and America. There is still much to be done. As part of the research, we have used archives, online material and an additional source of monumental inscriptions in churches. Focussing mainly on Warkups, these are the churchyards visited so far :

Calverts in Yorkshire

The Calverts began in a small village called Wawne, East Yorkshire. On the page below you can follow the family as it moves round the county. It details all the early parish records for each town, so you can see that all Calvert's in a town were related.

Warkups / Warcups in Yorkshire

There are two separate families of Warkups in Yorkshire, one originating form East Yorkshire, one from North Yorkshire. Although these are separate trees, everyone on the tree is related to each other (if only by marriage). It took considerable time and effort to link the two trees. There are also trees further North, and one in southern England which are yet to be linked. The two Yorkshire trees are :

Warkups and Calverts Movements beyond Yorkshire

Both sets of surnames on the tree (above) originate in Yorkshire. For all the people on the tree, you can see the births of every Warkup/Calvert split into time ranges. Starting with pre-1800 and following through to post 1950 you can see as they slowly spread beyond Yorkshire :

Emigrated Warkups / Warcups

There are a number of Warcup/Warkup families based in various locations in North & East Yorkshire who emigrated to the USA and Canada. The first one detailed on this page are the branch who moved to Quebec. (More to follow in time).
